13、safluidinagaseousstate.Letusconsideraquantityofwaterthatiscontainedinanopenvessel.Heretheairthatblanketsthesurfaceexertsapressureonthesurfaceofthefluidasthetemperatureofthewaterisraisedenoughenergyiseventuallygainedtoove
14、rcometheblanketingeffectofthatpressurethewaterstartstochangeitsstateintothatofavapour(steam).Furtherheataddedatthisstagewillnotcauseanyfurtherdetectablechangeintemperature:theenergyaddedisusedtochangethestateofthefluid.I
15、tseffectcannolongerbesensedbyathermometerbutitisstillthere.Fthisreasonitiscalledlatentratherthensensibleheat.Thetemperatureatwhichthishappensiscalledtheboilingpoint.Atnmalatmosphericpressuretheboilingpointofwateris100C.I
