3、t. Under the similar visual quality premise, H.264/AVC saved 50% bitrate compared to H.263 and MPEG-4. But the high complexity comes with the high performance, it is estimated its encoding complex probably is 3 times as
4、the H.263, thus it is difficult to apply in the real-time video processing domain. In view of the present situation, the massive research work which tries hard to reduce its complex and enhance its efficiency is doned. F
5、or example, in the movement estimate aspect, research already is very mature, but in the intra and inter prediction, the research are actually less. Therefore, the research for the algorithm of the fast prediction mode h
6、as the theory significance and the application value. Firstly,this paper provides an overview of the technical features of H.264/AVC, and describes theory of intra prediction,inter prediction, transform and quantization
7、in detail, and proposes a fast intra prediction mode selection strategy based on the partial edge direction information,reduce the pattern choice number through incorporating SAD(Sum of Absolute Difference) the pattern c
8、hoice method. It used the Sobel gradient operator to compute current block edge information to determine the most possible forecastting pattern. It improves the encoder efficiency under the conditon of not letting dowm
9、coding performance. Simulation shows: foreman image sequence coding performance has improved, which lowered the average PSNR 0.06dB, Bitrate average reduction of 19.4%.This will significantly enhance the quality of video
10、 transmission. Additionally, in the pattern choice of inter prediction aspect, the paper has conducted the improvement research: the mode selection of inter prediction is compared by the sorts of modes as the sequence, a
11、nd the optimal mode is confirmed by the compared modes and the stopping criterion for scrap pattern search. Thus, searching efficiency in the mode selection get a improvement. The improvement algorithm can saves many cod
