3、me of Pinter’s early plays entitled the Comedies of Menace. Through a detailed analysis of various patterns of menace suffered by main characters in those plays, the thesis points out that Pinter’s own experiences in chi

4、ldhood help to form his basic recognition of the world around him, so that in his belief, menace is the basic characteristic of the relationship between people, which accordingly forces him into the deep thought over cau

5、ses behind menace. By exploring Pinter’ means to perform menace in his plays and analyzing the reasons why those means are able to be effective, this thesis indicates that what Pinter found out behind menace is man’s inn
