4、 be formed, cheap, and light. Injection molding is a method for making a product from plastics material. After making a mold for a product, often seen that quality of product which be resulted from injection is not goo
5、d or there is a defect in the product, or fail. Of course, this problem could be bad impact to industry, because they would be needed high cost and time for production. In the design of mold, there are some things whic
6、h to be attention when doing design of mold, that are shape of product, cavity, runner system, gates system, venting of mold and heat exchange system. Because of that, if a design have made, need to depend on the thing
7、s in above which has been part of mold design standard. However, in the decided for the type and condition in above that the most of fit with the shape of product is very difficult. Example, for decide the location of
8、gate, if location of gate that has been decided not be good, so the result of product could be not maximum. To overcome this problem, simulation before made the mold is needed, to improve the quality of result after i
9、njection depend on design that would to be made, so if the mold was made could be result a good product. Software would be used is Moldflow. When use this software, could be predicted many things concerning with inject
10、ion process and could be improved quality of product that resulted in the injection process. Case study in this research was a plastic cup, because in the design of a cup, the problem that usually appears is on the ho
11、ld of cup. In the location, usually occur defect on the shape of hold of cup. If use simulation with Moldflow, it could be analysis the optimum location of the gate, so the result of product after injection process cou
12、ld be better. It is also minimize defect or fails in the product. The result of simulation that has been done are could show flow of plastic fluid entering all of cavities of mold, and could find locations which perhap
13、s appears air traps, and could improve quality of product after injection. The result of this simulation could improve quality of product. Before use simulation, there is defect on the product that resulted after inj
14、ection, but after use simulation, the quality of product is improved. It is very help in the development of new product plastic cup. The industry could be doing simulation first, to create the new product or develop ex
15、isting design. They could be success to carry out the new design with good quality. It means that they could be saving in production cost and production time. Keywords: Injection Mould, Moldflow Software, Improving
16、 Quality 1. INTRODUCTION Nowadays, Plastics be used to many purposes, such as bottle, plate, glass, cell phone, and kinds of accessories. Why plastic materials are used for many products? Because the behaviour of plast
17、ics. Plastic material are easy to be formed, can’t be corroded, cheap, light and difficult be broken. There are some methods can be used to form plastic. However, the most method that be used is Injection. In the Inje
18、ction processing, there are some matters that we must pay to attention, because the matters influence quality of product. The matters are design of mold, setting of injection machine, and quality of plastic material.
19、 In the Mold Design Process, there are some matters that we must be paid to attention, so the mould design can result a product with high quality. The matter that often occur is after a mould have made, product which r
20、esult from the mold, it have low quality. It is because design of the mold is not perfect enough. Another matter which influences the quality of product is the setting of Injection machine. The setting of Injection mac
21、hine included Temperature of Melt, temperature of cold, injection pressure, and etc. Wrong and not exactly enough of setting on the Injection machine will result a product with not good enough quality. ISBN 979-15577-0

23、y are be connected to the already solidified thin section. This builds stresses near the boundary of the thin section to thick section. Since the thin section does not yield because it is solid, the thick section (whic
24、h is still liquid) must yield. Often this leads to warping or twisting. If this is severe enough, the part could even crack. Warping also can been caused due to non-uniform mold temperatures or cooling rates. Non-unifo
25、rm packing or pressure in the mold Alignment of polymer molecules and fiber reinforcing strands during the mold fill results in preferential properties in the part. Molding process conditions--too high a injection pre
26、ssure or temperature or improper temperature and cooling of the mold cavity. Generally, it is best to follow the resin manufacturer's guidelines on process conditions and only vary conditions within the limits of t
27、he guidelines. It is not good practice to go beyond the pressure and temperature recommendations to compensate for other defects in the mold. If runners need to be sized differently to allow for a proper fill, or gate
28、sizes that need to be changed, then those changes need to happen. Otherwise the finished parts will have too much built in stresses, could crack in service or warp- leading to more severe problems such as customer retur

30、ft (taper), Drafts (or taper) in a mold, facilitates part removal from the mold. The amount of draft angle depends on the depth of the part in the mold, and its required end use function. The draft is in the offset ang
31、le in a direction parallel to the mold opening and closing. It is best to allow as much draft as possible for easy release from the mold. As a nominal recommendation, it is best to allow 1 to 2 degrees of draft, with a
32、n additional 1.5° min. per 0.025 mm (0.001 inch) depth of texture. The mold parting line can be relocated, which it is to split the draft in order to minimize it. 2.2. Model and Material Model of Plastic cup in th
