4、mendmentstotheirspecificcourseDesign.Theycanbefmativeincludeongoingfeedbackeitherduringtheassessmentafter.Theymaybe‘scedfmative’allowingongoingcomparisonofastudent’sprogressoveraperiodoftimepossiblyreplacinganendoftermsu
5、mmativeassessment.Alternativelytheymaybesummativecontributingtoastudent’sendofyearmark.Dependingoncircumstancessuchtestscanbeeithersupervisednonsupervisedwiththeoptionofallowingstudentstochecktheirownprogressthroughselfa
6、ssessment.Althoughmecommonlyusedftestinglowerderskills(suchasknowledgeunderstingapplication)whenproperlyfmulatedtheycanalsobeusedftestinghigherderskills(analysissynthesisevaluation).Theirnatureallowstheautomationofwhatwa
7、spreviouslyaverytimeconsumingtask:thatismarkingmonitingprogress.LikeothertoolsaproperlyconstructedCAApackagecanbeveryefficientinachievingitsdesignatedtasks.Thecasestudyinsection3(theAberdeencase)exemplifiesaprocedurethat
8、wasjudgedtobeanoverwhelmingsuccess.UnsurprisinglyifbadlySometimesasintheAberdeencaseCAAcanfillagapthatneitherlecturersnsmallertutialgroupscouldotherwisefulfillgivenresources.Itisalsoarguedthattheadoptionoftheappropriatea
9、pproachcanleadto‘deeplearning’inadditiontometransientgains.Intermsofadvantagestostudentsinadditiontotheirbeingmecloselymonitedbyacademicstaffitisalsopossiblefthemtoreceivefeedbackduringimmediatelyafterafmativeassessment.
