2、In traditional agricultural society, the most prominent disaster is flood and drought. Despite the advanced technology nowadays, it’s difficult for people to survive without psychological support. Therefore, people began

3、 to use various folk means to cope with flood and drought. Folk study on flood and drought is about folk explanation of the causes, reactions before and when flood and drought come. The thesis brings flood and drought in

4、to the background of traditional agricultural culture, which enables us to understand Chinese traditional culture, knowing the mentality of the nation. The thesis studies flood and drought disasters in the view of folkl

5、ore，it is divided into three sections. The first section is the introduction part. It describes the reason for choosing this topic, the object of study and the meaning of study. The second section is the main body of th

6、e thesis, includes Chapter I, Chapter II, Chapter III and Chapter IV. Chapter I is the folk explanation about the reason of flood and drought disasters. It divides into four reasons, namely disasters caused by the heaven

7、, by monsters, by accident and by wars. Chapter II is the folk reaction before flood and drought disasters. It uses omen and daily worship to prevent against the disasters. Chapter III is the folk reaction when flood and

8、 drought disasters come. The reactions are mainly through wizardry ceremony and sacrificial rite. Reaction in wizardry ceremony includes the reaction in myths, prayer and incantation, reaction in sacrificial rite include

9、s official rite and unofficial rite. Chapter IV is the function of folk disasters; it has ecological function, psychological function and cultural heritage function. The last section is conclusive part. It presents some

10、 negative impacts in folk disasters, then put forward a proposal for folk disasters, which is reinforce the positive impact while analyzes the negative influence. At last, it points out the significance of studying disas
