2、tti(1830-1894)is of great noteworthiness. Christina,quite a legendary and mysterious poetess, is considered to be one of the most talented poetess in Britain. She lived in a happy and harmonious family which was full of
3、love and was familiar with the thought and dogma of Christianity since she was born. She devoutly held the Anglican Church belief. Due to the difference in the religious belief, Christina kept single all her life after h
4、aving experienced two love affairs. In spite of being a stay-at-home, she concealed a rich and mystical inner world of love under her quiet daily life. A reader can comprehend the secret of life from her jewel-like and b
5、rief poetry suffused with religious piety. For quite a long time in China, researches on Christina G. Rossetti and her works have not raised much attention from readers and scholars. This thesis, through Sigmund Freud’s
6、 Psychoanalytical perspective, concentrates the efforts on Christina’s personal experience in the form of evolutionary love in her two prime collections of poetry. Christina, after her first love with James Collinson (18
7、25-1881), recorded the inner world in her first book of poetry Goblin Market and Other Poems (1862) which profoundly expressed her spiritual conflict between Eros and Agape, her id and superego. Before refusing the propo
8、sal of Charles Bagot Caley (1839-1892), after her superego conquered id, Christina published her second book of poetry The Prince’s Progress and Other Poems (1866) which clearly unfolded her renunciation of Eros for Agap
9、e before readers’ eyes. These two prime books of poetry embody a concentrated reflection of Christina’s evolution from Eros to Agape. This thesis, through Christina’s two prime books of poetry from Psychoanalytical persp
10、ective, sheds light on her evolution from Eros to Agape, and the immediate causes of evolution in order to go further research on enriching the materials about Christina and her works. Through this new research aspec
11、t, we have developed the comprehensive knowledge of Christina G. Rossetti’s enthusiasm for religion and life. Christina has, as reflected in her art of two prime books of poetry, a great refined and unique vision. Christ
12、ina is no doubt recognized as a prominent poetess in Victorian British poetry. She claims a position in the British literature that no one else could replace. The world of Christina is a real world of the spirit, and her
