5、sesareknownasphasefaultwhilearefourthfaultnamelyLGfaultiscalledgroundfault.Allofthelinefaultswillbringthesystemintoabnmaloperatingconditionsmaydamageelectricalequipment.Therefethefaultylinesmustbeisolatedfromthesystembyp

6、rotectionrelays.FaultsinSynchronousMachinesGenerataresubjectedtovarietiesofpossiblehazardswhentheyareinoperation.Thepossiblehazardsfaultswhichmayoccurinasynchronousgeneratcanbroadlybeclassifiedintotwocategies:(i)internal

7、faultswithinthegenerat(ii)abnmaloperatingabnmalsystemconditionscausedbyexternalfaults.Internalfaultsofageneratmainlyincludestatfaultsrotfaults.Statfaults—withinthestatwindingfaultscanoccurduetofailureofinsulation(i.e.die

8、lectric)opencircuitofconduct.Failureofinsulationcanleadtotheshtcircuitbetween:(i)twomephases(ii)phasece(iii)twometurnsofthesamephase(i.e.interturnfault).Failureofinsulationcanoccurduetoovervoltageoverheatingcausedbyunbal

9、ancedloadingbyoverloadingbyventilationtroublesbyimpropercoolingoflubricationoil.Itmayalsobecausedbyconductmovementduetofcesexertedbyshtcircuitcurrentsoutofstepoperation.Themostcommonfaultinthestatwindingisgroundfaultabou

10、t85%ofthefaultsarephasetogroundfaultsinanygeneratwinding.Phasetogroundfaultifpersistsmayleadtophasetophasefaultseventophasephasephasefault(threephaseshtcircuit)whichisthemostseverefaultthoughleastcommon.Thecauseofovervol

11、tagewhichultimatelyresultsintofailureofinsulationcanbeduetooverspeedofprimemoverduetodefectivevoltageregulathoweverthesedaysgovernsvoltageregulatsactveryfastpreventanydamagetothewindinginsulationRotfaults—Intherotwinding
