2、in the Kuomintang-controlled areas, but a representative personage of revolutionary realism. Owing to his skilled technology, Liu molded plenty of characters, fully reflecting our national ethos. He created a style featu

3、red with plainness and conciseness, rhythmicity and power, passion and artistry. A foreign critic said that Liu was the fauvism in the woodcut field of China. Liu joined the anti-imperialist union and Left-wing Federatio

4、n in 1933.With the outbreak of the war against Japan，the life style and social order was greatly changed. He worked underground in this period, and once moved to Xi'an, Chongqing and other places. Liu Tiehua woodcar

5、ving art reflects the revolutionary realism's aesthetic orientation, emphasis is also the education function of art. His this kind of aesthetic orientation in art diversified today still has positive significance. Li

6、u saw and heard the brutal Japanese invaders’ devilry and darkness around the Kuomintang-controlled areas. National peril and people’s suffering beat his heart from time to time. These experiences made him full of revolu

7、tionary spirit of democracy and more confident in dedicating all his life to the revolutionary artistic cause. Liu’s works, which fully reflected the social unrest and people’s suffering in Kuomintang-controlled areas du

8、ring the war and also reflected people’s urgent eager to pursue democracy, freedom and national liberation, always related to the times. Liu was good at illuminating the true meanings of life by capturing and creating be

9、auty from the subtlety of life and laboring people. The majority of his personal characteristics works, which combined the essence of the Chinese traditional wood carving and the European expressionism, usually highly pr

10、aised the front-line soldiers and ordinary people. Through the thought and the formalism beauties reflected in Liu’s woodcuts, I gain the character and style of his works. From the perspective of art-sociology, I find th
