4、as well as discourse analysis and risk society theory to make a descriptive study of the two newspapers’ haze reports from 2005-2014, trying to identify possible causes and draw meaningful conclusions. There inevitably a

5、re similarities in some respects on haze reports of Southern Weekend and New York Times: The number of reports all reached the peak in recent years; The origins of the reports were mainly attributed to haze emergencies o

6、r government agendas; The tendentiousness of reports were generally focused on negative reports, balanced reports were limited; On the respect of attribution, the two newspapers preferred to ascribing the haze to automob

7、iles, coal and electric power; On the respect of agenda setting, political discourse took the place of scientific discourse, attempting to settle problems; On the respect of problem solving, both of the two newspapers em

8、phasized administrative measures. However, differences on haze reports also exist between Southern Weekend and New York Times: 97% haze reports of Southern Weekend were focused on domestic haze pollution, while 62% haze

9、reports of New York Times were focused on overseas haze pollution; On the aspect of reporting themes, in-depth reports on Southern Weekend accounted for 56%, far above the proportion of 40% on New York Times. On the aspe

10、ct of page layout, haze reports on Southern Weekend were mainly published on specific space, that was the Green Page, while haze reports on New York Times scattered across the 12 pages; On the aspect of reporting framewo

11、rk, legal framework of Southern Weekend accounted for 20% while the legal framework of New York Times accounted for only 1%; On the aspect of attribution, Southern Weekend tended to attribute the pollution to abstract in

12、dustries, which were difficult to call to account, on the contrary, New York Times generally attributed to specific companies or persons. On the aspect of solution framework, Southern Weekend emphasized administrative me
