1、Founded on Bachman's framework of test method facets and componentialconstruct of reading comprehension tests, this paper attempts to investigate the effectsof text type (narration, exposition and argumentation) and test
2、 type (multiple-choiceand short-answer questions) on Chinese college students' EFL reading comprehensiontest performance, and also to determine whether and how the effects would bemoderated by different levels of EFL pro
3、ficiency (high, middle and low) and testitems (high and low). The study finds that: 1) both text type and test type have asignificant effect on reading test performance; 2) there is no significant interactioneffect betwe
4、en the two factors on reading test performance; 3) for high-EFL levelsubjects, text type, test type and the interaction between the two significantlyinfluence test performance; for middle- and low-EFL level subjects, tex
5、t type and testtype significantly influence test performance while the interaction between the twodoes not; the significant effect of text type is the most notable for low-EFL levelsubjects while that of test type is the
6、 least notable for Iow-EFL level ones; 4) forhigh-level items, text type, test type and the interaction between the two significantlyinfluence test performance; for low-level items, text type and the interaction betweent
