1、Objective:To compare the effectiveness of Ilizarov ring external fixator (IEF) Vs Half-pin external fixator as primary and definitive mean of fixation in open fracture of tibial shaft.Material and methods:76 patients wit

2、h open fracture of tibial diaphysis classified as grade I, grade II, grade IIIA and IIIB, according to gustillo classification were operatively treated.In 35 patients fractures were stabilized using Ilizarov ring externa

3、l fixator and 41 patient recieved stabilization with Half-pin external fixator (Hoffman, AO or other different frames).Early soft tissue coverage was provided in all these patients. The follow-up period was atleast 12 mo

4、nths.These two groups were compared in terms of effectiveness of the treatment mehods.Result:The results of the study showed a Mean time of union of 25.91±1.64 weeks in Ilizarov group and 28.52±2.04 weeks for Half-pin ex

5、ternal fixator group. Nonunion rate in Ilizarov group was 5.71％and for Half-pin fixator was 9.75%. Malunion rate in Ilizarov group was 5.71% and for Half-pin fixator was 14.63%.In Type I or Type II patients, there wasn't
