14、11</p><p>  Introduction </p><p>  Jia yuxin, the author of Interculture Communcation, says that culture is the sum of people’s thinking, words, behavior and feelings. Under different environmen

15、ts, different nations build their own special cultures. The term “intercultural communication” may refer to communications between people from different nations or with different cultural backgrounds, contains people’s o

16、verviews, thinking ways, value oriental and customs. It has been emerged and impeded by cultural conflicts.</p><p>  With the society’s economy and social civilization developing, the world has gradually int

17、egrated itself into a globalization process. World citizens are going to be exposed to a global culture, a global economy and a global environment. Among them, the globalization of cultures plays an important role in cha

18、nging people’s values, attitudes of face to society etc. The globalization refers to a worldwide process. It makes the Economic systems and societies more uniform, more integrated and more d</p><p>  The glo

19、balization of cultures also affect the quick development of technology, especially the highly modernized media, which makes large differences of the environment we live. At the inhabitant of the 21century, we have no cho

20、ice whether to live in an environment which has different cultures and the people communicate expediently. The different cultures of this century have never been so densely mixed because of the globalization of cultures.

21、 To fit the change, what we can do is to have the cap</p><p>  China and America are the examples that I choose to talk about this thesis’ theme.</p><p>  We find which parts of two countries ca

22、n be mixed and which are apart.</p><p>  1.1 Background Information</p><p>  In 1972,the relationship between China and America begins with Ping Pong Diplomacy after the second world war. Later

23、the president, Richard Milhous Nixon, visited the People's Republic of China. This action means that the relationship between China and America are normalizing. In 1979, China established diplomatic relations with Am

24、erica. </p><p>  In these years, because of the cultural exchange between China and America, people communicate with each other frequently. With the emotion penetrating, the love has happened. Nowadays, ther

25、e are more and more international marriages. Customs is a kind of usual, generally accepted and long established way of behaving or doing things. It is one of the important parts of cultures and its essence is culture. M

26、any unsuccessful intercultural communications lie in the ignorance of other cultural custo</p><p>  1.2 The Review of the Researches on the Wedding in China and America</p><p>  In China, holdin

27、g a wedding is not only the couple’s job but also the two families’ job. In ancient China, the wedding process is named three letters and six etiquettes.</p><p>  The three letters are request letter, gift l

28、etter and wedding letter. The six etiquettes are request for marrying the bride, request for bride and groom’s birth dates, initial gifts for the bride’s family, formal gifts for the bride’s family, select the wedding da

29、te, and wedding day( Sun Jing,2009). </p><p>  In modern China, numerous traditional steps are ignored, just only the minority is alive. In most cases, the girl and boy know each other by the go-between. Mot

30、her’s brother is the go-between. Then the two families discuss the details about the wedding and make a decision on the date of the wedding. On that day, the bridegroom comes to the bride’s home for the bride and takes h

31、er to his home along with the dowry. They bow to the heaven and the earth: the first kowtow is for the heaven and earth,</p><p>  In America, the wedding is a fairly large and elaborate affair, especially wh

32、en it is the first wedding for the bride.The bridegroom and the bride go to the church separately. The bride wears a white wedding dress and a white wedding veil. And they have the wedding in the church. The Father asks

33、the bride and the bridegroom: “Are you willing to be this man's wife, for better or worse?” They answer: “I do.” They help each other to wear the rings, and kiss each other. The bride throws a ball-flowe</p>&

34、lt;p>  During the long history, the Chinese people has changed some places but not essence to fit in with the needs of the society. What the biggest characteristic of wedding convention in modern China is that Chinese

35、 people combine the Chinese culture with the western culture. However, the American wedding is still effected by the religious faith. They have no big changes about it.</p><p>  1.3 The Purpose of the Writin

36、g</p><p>  Taking into account of all the overviews, we can find that there are many differences of the wedding’s convention between China and America. The moment in the wedding is the most dazzling time of

37、the woman’s whole life. When she is a little girl, she has to imagine her bridegroom and the large wedding. We can’t allow any fault happen in the wedding to make the wedding not perfect. But the branching between two co

38、untries must be existent; we can’t avoid the differences in two cultures. </p><p>  By giving the examples which are bride’s wedding dress, the etiquette and wedding party, this article wants to remind the p

39、eople of some differences between China and America and make the people not quarrel with each other just only the color of the dress any more. And we can try our best to find a way which can reach the half way. Then the

40、communication between two countries will continue forever, and become better and better.</p><p>  2. The Differences of the Bride’s Wedding Dress </p><p>  The wedding is the most important mome

41、nt of the life. Every couple must dress the most beautiful wedding clothes. Every bride wants that everything is perfect and is the same as the dream she once had. The day of the wedding is their happiest and most unforg

42、ettable day. Because of the different cultures, there are different attire and jewelry represent in the wedding. </p><p>  2.1 The Chinese Bride’s Wedding Dress</p><p>  In China, red cannot be

43、separated with the jubilant day, like the wedding day. Red, symbolic of joy, featured prominently in the clothing and other ritual objects pertaining to the wedding. Because people think red can bring the luck, health an

44、d honor. The dress is often red. </p><p>  In ancient, Feng Guan Xia Pi (phoenix crown)is the representative of the wedding dress. The bride wears the phoenix crown and the red clothes which has the style of

45、 that dynasty. On the clothes, the bride embroiders the phoenix or other thing by herself before the wedding. The different patterns have the different meanings. One special thing is that there is red veil made of a lace

46、d silk square, red head cover, covering the bride’s face. The bridegroom uses something to remove the red cotton. Th</p><p>  In modern China, with the spread of the western culture, the bride dresses the wh

47、ite wedding dress. The bride prepares several kinds of the dress. A white wedding dress, a red cheong-sam and an evening dress are necessary. The white wedding dress is worn in the wedding ceremony; this is an effect of

48、the western culture. The red cheong-sam is worn in bowing to the heaven and the earth, this is to embodiment the Chinese culture, all in all, the red is still the main color; we can’t throw the legac</p><p>

49、  2.2 The American Bride’s Wedding Dress</p><p>  In America, there are some discourses about the wedding color: the white wedding represents that the couple can make everything perfect; the blue wedding mea

50、ns the bride makes a right choice; the yellow wedding means the bride makes a wrong choice; the red wedding means the bride curses herself; the black wedding means they had better to cancel the wedding. So the American c

51、hooses white as the main color. And in the western’s eyes, white symbolizes chasteness and heavenliness.</p><p>  In America, the bride wears a white wedding dress and a white wedding veil. Differing from th

52、e Chinese wedding, the American bride must wear four things on her body in the wedding. The four things are an old thing, a new thing, a borrowed thing and a blue thing. The old thing means the transition from the bachel

53、ordom life to matrimony, and other discourse is that the friendship between the bride and her friends and the parent-child relationship are keeping up; it is usually jewelry from her home</p><p>  Otherwise,

54、 the American bride wears the ring. Throughout history till today, the ring is the symbol of allegiance and treasure. After the couple swearing in front of priest, they help each other wear the ring. The ring is worn on

55、the ring finger of the left hand. That means eternal love can keep up by this finger wearing the ring.</p><p>  2.3 The Collisions of the Two Countries’ Wedding Dress</p><p>  The biggest collis

56、ion is the color of the wedding. Chinese wedding’s main color is red; but the American wedding’s color is white. The reason is their different culture. Chinese think red can bring the luck, health and success. They think

57、 white means the death; we can see the people wear the white color clothes in the funeral. But on the other hand, American think white symbolizes chasteness and heavenliness. Wearing the white means the love is chaste. A

58、nd in their eyes, red stand for the blood </p><p>  With the spread of the western culture, Chinese old culture doesn’t stop spreading. Though Chinese people accept the white wedding dress. They make some ch

59、anges in the dress. They still put a red flower or a red line on the dress, which makes the dress not all of white. This action is a good way to solve the collision. We can do something which keeps our own culture and at

60、 the same time we lead the other countries’ characteristic. Also some Americans want to have the experience of Chinese weddin</p><p>  3. The Differences of the Wedding Etiquette in the Wedding </p>&

61、lt;p>  Every country has its own wedding etiquette. The different etiquettes represent the different cultures. Every action has different meanings; China and America also have their own etiquettes. For example, the Ch

62、inese wedding is hilarious, but the American wedding is sober.</p><p>  3.1 The Chinese Etiquette</p><p>  In China, there are many wedding traditions because of fifty-six nationalities. Every n

63、ationality has its own tradition. This article gives an example of Han nationality, because it has the largest population in China.</p><p>  In a Chinese wedding, the couple are given full of the warmest ble

64、ssing in the lively atmosphere. The biggest characteristic is to thank the parents and friends. At first, the bridegroom comes to the bride’s home for the bride and takes her to his home along with the dowry. At this tim

65、e, the family set off the first firecrackers to remind that the bridegroom has arrived. The bridegroom eat some food what cooked by the bride’s mother, and receive a pair of chopsticks and two wine goblets wrapped </p

66、><p>  3.2 The American Etiquette</p><p>  The America has few wedding traditions that are totally unique to America. Virtually all American wedding traditions and customs have either been taken di

67、rectly from a wide range of other countries and cultures--primarily European--or they have evolved from traditions in other nations. This is certainly easily understood since America was originally populated by immigrant

68、s from many lands,primarily Europe. These immigrants brought their own wedding traditions with them, and these traditions stir</p><p>  There are a few things that all American weddings have in common. To be

69、gin with,American wedding etiquettes may be either religious or civil.Most brides prefer a large and rather elaborate ceremony if it is their first wedding. The ceremony itself is often conducted by a religious leader kn

70、own to the bride or the bridegroom. The man generally is the Father, and the ceremony often happens in the church. At first, singing the song Wedding March, the bride holds her father to go to the bridegroom. </p>

71、<p>  3.3 The Collisions of the Two Countries’ Wedding Etiquette</p><p>  The Chinese etiquette and the American etiquette are absolutely different, especially the atmosphere of the wedding. The Chines

72、e wedding is hilarious, but the American wedding is sober. We can not request each side to give up their culture. The wedding etiquette continues by the history. </p><p>  In China, the Chinese people lead t

73、he western wedding etiquette into their wedding. They also keep their own etiquette. Chinese use their own etiquette to marry, and they put the western etiquette onto the wedding party. Despite the fact that the party is

74、 not sober, the people combine the Chinese etiquette with the American etiquette. We needn’t give up the alternative.</p><p>  4. The Differences of the Wedding Party</p><p>  At the end of the

75、wedding, both of the two counties have a wedding party. They want to hold a party as a happy end of the perfect wedding and thank the friends and the relatives for their blessing. The party generally has a grand scale. &

76、lt;/p><p>  4.1 The Chinese Wedding Party</p><p>  The Chinese wedding party is generally considered as public recognition of the union. The two families want to tell the relatives and friends that

77、 their children get married and grow up. They hope the new couple get the blessing from all of people.</p><p>  Today, more and more Chinese people hold the wedding in the restaurant. Because it can lighten

78、their burden. They also don’t want to make their house dirty. In China, the bridegroom pays the money of the party. The party provides the Chinese traditional food. Some dishes have special meanings. In the wedding party

79、, there are a series of activities. The western etiquette are also leaded into the Chinese wedding party from what has said above. The master presides these activities. The bride wearin</p><p>  4.2 The Amer

80、ican Wedding Party</p><p>  The American wedding party has no special provision. It is freedom, sometimes it can be a buffet, sometimes it is a dancing party. At a buffet, the guests can walk and eat food fr

81、eely. The buffet provides numerous kinds of food, like cake, red wine, champagne, cold dish and so on. The party can be held everywhere, no matter where they like. Sometimes it is held in a park. Mostly it is held in the

82、 outside.The bride and the bridegroom greet their guests. Then they cut the wedding cake and feed eac</p><p>  After the party, the new couple directly go to have a honeymoon. This moment can promote the emo

83、tion. During that time, they travel with each other, only them. The time of the honeymoon has no special provision; it depends on the couple’s contemplation.</p><p>  4.3 The Collisions of the Two Countries’

84、 Wedding Party</p><p>  The two countries’ purpose is same to celebrate the marriage and recognized by the public. There are only some small details different, like the place.</p><p>  The bigge

85、st collision is the person to pay the money of the party. Referring to money, it is sensitive to both of them. To the Chinese, they think they give their daughter to you, what you can do is the payment. It has been said

86、that in China, the girl married is belong to the bridegroom. But in America, they don’t have this consciousness, they can’t understand. Maybe we can share the bill to reach halfway. We should use the knowledge to solve t

87、he problem. We cannot think we always right toughly</p><p>  5. Conclusion</p><p>  This article’s main purpose is to draw people’s attention to the differences of modern weeding between Chinese

88、 and American who will marry a foreigner. And it makes them to avoid the unpleasantness when the differences of the wedding happen.</p><p>  There are many differences of the culture between China and Americ

89、a. China as the biggest country in east, has a long history, so it has the rich culture which should be seen by people; America as the most flourishing country, we can also know something about it. The weddings of two co

90、untries reflect the different cultures. We should have the capability of intercultural communication to avoid that we lose ourselves in the prejudice to different countries’ culture. We should evaluate the two coun</p
