11、wasoftendivertedtoprocuringwars.Evenafterthewarthecostofreconstructionrehabilitationwassohighthatthelibrarysectpaledinsignificance.MostAfricanuniversitylibrarieswereestablishedonasolidfoundationastheywereassistedbyfeigng

12、anizationssuchastheBritishCouncilCarnegieCpationUnitedStatesInfmationServicetheUnitedNationsEducationalScientificCulturalganization(UNESCO)theWldBank.Thecontributionsoftheseganizationsinprovidingbooksequipmentstafftraini

13、ngaredocumentedintheliterature(Ogunrombietal.1998Kavulya2006).ItisimptanttonotethattheseganizationsarestillmakingsignificantcontributionstothedevelopmentofuniversitylibrariesinAfrica.FinstancetheCarnegieCpationtheMacArth

14、urFoundationareprovidingtechnicalassistancetoprovideautomatedlibraryservicestosixuniversitylibrariesinNigeria.AlsodonatedVSATstoafewlibrariesinNigeriaGhanatoenablethemprovideInterservicestotheirusers.hasalsobeeninvolvedi

15、nsupptingtheestablishmentofconstiainuniversitylibrariestofacilitateresourcesharingtrainingoflibrariansintheuseofopenaccessresourcesopensourcesoftwaredevelopinginstitutionalreposities.Althoughinrealitylibrarianshavealways
