2、ian philosophy, and is the Confucian’s pursuit. The Pre-QinConfucianism experienced difficulties and always failed to achieve dominance in politicalpractice.Since Dong Zhongshu, a master of Confucianism in Han Dynasty, p
3、aid supremetribute to Confucianism while banned all other schools of thought, Confucianism has beena dominant ideology in Chinese feudal society and influenced the Chinese people for twothousand years, which is an affair
4、 to ponder over. Although this “revolution” in thedevelopment of Confucianism was the natural result of politics, economy, and culture ofChinese society, Dong-Zhongshu, the major proposer, played a decisive role. Therefo
5、re, aresearch on his thoughts can help us understand how Confucianism developed into theChinese ethos while conforming to the historical trend and ponder upon its influence ontraditional Chinese culture and Chinese socie
6、ty.We hold the belief that Dong, absorbing the different thoughts of Legalism, MohistSchool and the Yin-Yang cosmology, reformed Confucianism on the despotic backgroundof “great Unification ideology”; constructed the eth
7、ic system based on the metaphysicaltheory of “Telepathy Outlook Between Man and Heaven”; and finally realized the aim ofethicizing politics and the politicalizing ethics. In terms of the former, the ethical doctrinesof “
8、three cardinal guides” demonstrated by Dong and “five constant virtues” redefined byhim, were adopted by the politics and therefore possessed the quality and function ofpolitics. After combining with the politics of king
9、craft, “three cardinal guides” and “fiveconstant virtues” began to assume the heavy responsibility of “serving the sovereignty andthe country”, which established the ethicizing characteristics of traditional Chinese poli
10、tics.While in terms of the latter, Dong advanced the principles of “ruling a nation with virtuebut penalty” and the specific measures of reform, which laid politics under the control ofethics.Dong's Confucianism is t
11、o serve politics and the ethical features of his thought wereembodied by ethicizing politics and the politicalizing ethics, from whose perspective westudy his thought of ethics. This thesis falls into four parts:Chapter
