3、 日 III ABSTRACT A Report on the Translation of Crisis of Character (Chapter 5 to 7) This translation practice report is based on my translation from English into Chinese of Crisis of Character, including the introduction

4、, analysis and summary about the procedure and completion of the task. This source text is a biography, which is a combination of history and literature. There is rich information on history, politics and culture in the

5、text, which creates cultural diversity between Chinese and English. In the process of translating Chapter Five, Six and Seven of Crisis of Character, the difficulties can be divided into two categories. Accordingly, the

6、translator adopts respective methods. The first problem is the translation of words. It includes insulting words, cultural default words and proper nouns. For insulting words, the translator carefully recognizes the att

7、itude from the author, and translates them in Chinese according to the Chinese language habits. For cultural default words, which are hard for readers to understand, the translator uses relative displacement, compensatio

8、n and other methods. For proper nouns, the translator takes readers‘ demands into account and adds necessary explanatory content. The second problem is the translation of complex sentences. For comparative sentences and

9、other complex sentences, the translator analyzes the sentences and understands the logic of the structure. According to the context, the translator finds out the accurate meaning first and then uses translation strategie
