2、ional China. Huizhou Opera was one critical constituent part in Huizhou’s social life. Its introduction into Beijng directly drove the birth of Peking Opera. Huizhou Opera had a great impact on Huizhou society and overal

3、l Chinese society then. Frequent and active acting performances were the foundation and guatantee for the prosperity of Huizhou Opera, and a bridge for Huizhou Opera’s influence on local society. Therefore, analysis on a

4、cting performances in Huizhou not only helps us understand Huizhou Opera’s developing lines, but also discloses local society’s operation patterns and effects in Huizhou. The rising of Huizhou Merchants quickened and dee

5、pened Huizhou’s social and economic development. Consequently, large increase in social wealth enabled the constant bloom of acting performances. According to local documents, sources of raising money for acting performa

6、nces diversed, such as from public proceeds, from a family or a person, money gathered from a group of wealthy people, and sponsored per person or per acre of land. In fact, multi-source of money raised for acting perfor

7、mances were applied in order to safeguard enough fund for its running. As a record on expenditures of acting performances says, detailed records were found, indicating that strict criterion was set for the usuage of the

8、fund and for the restriction of running procedures. These all led to a systemized guarantee for the development of acting perfprmances in Huizhou. Local clans and Huizhou Merchants played important roles respectively in

9、the history of Huizhou Opera. They were Huizhou Opera’s key sponsors, organizers and promoters. Their support and participation decided Huizhou Opera’s developing direction and its prosperity. Nationally traveled Huizhou

10、 Merchants brought Huizhou Opera to every corner of China, which became the main source of national opera – Peking Opera. In traditional society, Huizhou Opera performed cricial social functions, such as enlightment, sac

11、rifice, publicity, socialization; however, while Huizhou Opera brough positive effect on the society, negative effect also resulted in. Those associated unhealthy phenomena constantly troubled the ruling class of Huizhou

12、. Althouth they took varieties of measures to control them, their effort were almost in vain at the background of a changing society, where social turbulence greatly affected traditional society. Key words: since Ming a
