2、nglo-Saxon. Just like economic development, English has the trend of globalization and the characteristic of localization. Only by grasping these two directions can we really understand Modern English. As a variety in Ch

3、ina, more and more attention has been paid to China English. China English is a new discourse in World Englishes discourses since Chinese users of English have transcreated the Chinese linguistic and cultural characteris

4、tics into English, thus enforcing pluralism of English discourses and enriching the World Englishes discourses. The paper consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction to the study, in which the rationale for

5、 the study, objectives and methodology of current study are sketched out. The second part is primarily a critical literature review of previous studies. The author outlines general pictures and some of the major research

6、 contributions in recent approaches to World Englishes and China English. The third part is devoted to justifying the theoretical basis for the present study. Firstly, she talks about discourse, culture, and cultural dis

7、course from the viewpoint of a cultural approach to discourse. Then she explores China English as a cultural discourse that represents Chinese culture. The fourth part is the most important part, in which the author ende

8、avors to find the cultural elements in China English discourse through a case study of the English-language literature by bilingual Chinese writers. She conducts a deeper research on the Chinese cultural elements in Mome

9、nt in Peking and The Joy Luck Club. In the last part the author comes naturally to the conclusion of the whole study by summarizing its major contributions and limitations. Along with these, some suggestions for further

10、studies are proposed. The paper aims at making some contributions to the study of World Englishes and China English. By drawing attention to unfamiliar, marginalized or subordinate non-Western discourse, she hopes to he

11、lp the non-Western Other to reclaim identity and agency. At the same time, she hopes to increase Western awareness of the existence of non-Western discourse and so of the plurality of human discourse more generally. She
