2、rm of language art. By using metrical words to reflect the real life and express the emotions of human beings, the graceful and harmonious metrical factors are regarded as the main characteristics of poetry. The metrical
3、 beauty contained in the poetry is the most direct and obvious beauty that can be easily detected by readers. Just because of its metrical beauty, poetry is considered as the most musical literary form, and metrical fact
4、ors play an important part in achieving the beauty of music. Poetry translation has always been considered as a hard nut to be cracked. The famous American poet Robert Frost says: “poem is what is lost in translation” (H
5、uang, 1999, p. 16). That is the true difficulty in poetry translation. Metrical beauty is among those losses, because it is difficult to be transferred into the target language. There are excellent translators, however,
6、such as Xu Yuanchong, who proposed the theory of “beauty in three aspects”, which can be seen as the criterion in transference of metrical factors. Nowadays, poetry translation studies have changed from the perspective o
7、f static comparison to dynamic aesthetic equivalence. It is of great importance to analyze the metrical beauty in both Chinese and English poetry and its inter-- representation in translation. This thesis is to discuss t
