2、as shifted from the analysis of language learners’ errors and the difference between the two languages to the study of language learners and their languages. In their studies, researchers have noticed that language learn
3、ers’ language in certain period neither belongs to native language nor to target language, but is a transitional language in language use, namely, interlanguage. Interlanguage is a common phenomenon in language learning.
4、 It refers to the knowledge system which is formed in a certain period in learners’ second language or foreign language learning process. It is a transitional language system, which is changing and adjusting constantly w
5、ith the increase of learners’ second language knowledge. On the one hand, the study on interlanguage can enrich the study on second language acquisition; on the other hand, the achievements of the study can guide practic
6、al activities in language teaching. The universality of interlanguage impels linguists and foreign language teachers to face its existence, study its law and offer theoretical foundation and practical guidance for the re
7、form of foreign language teaching methods. Since the concept of “interlanguage” was first proposed by Selinker in 1972, applied linguists have done many researches into interlanguage system, which include questions such
8、as how the language used by foreign language learners differs from that by native speakers, whether the difference can facilitate foreign language learning, what the characteristics of interlanguage are, how it comes int
9、o being, what the stages of its formation have gone through and so on. However, researches in this field so far are far from enough, this thesis will try to discuss thoroughly the characteristics, the classification and
10、the formation of interlanguage. And also, it will provide some strategies to overcome the weak points of learners in the foreign language teaching, aiming at facilitating transition to the target language. The thesis sta
11、rts with the definition and features of interlanguage and its relations with language learning. Based on Chinese learners’ interlanguage in English learning process, it classifies interlanguage on the aspects of phonetic
12、s, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Then the thesis makes a comprehensive analysis on the formation of interlanguage from the perspectives of linguistics, physiology, psychology and sociology. Research shows
